Plastic recycling changes lives in Uganda

Meet Abdu Ssekamanya.  Abdu is an entrepreneur in Kalerewe, Kampala and through the Waste to Wealth project he’s achieved big changes in his life.  Abdu received training from Living Earth Uganda to help grow his business, and now employs 15 youths to collect plastic in his local area to be sold for recycling.  He has also developed further business ventures including a laundry and a grocery store.

Abdu and his team use the Information Hub created by the project to update their skills and knowledge and to explore new opportunities for enterprise.  The Hub acts as a library, with videos, training manuals and demonstration items, providing information to help more people like Abdu to develop their business ideas and will be a resource for the community even after the project has finished.

As a successful businessman Abdu has bought land to build a new house. Today Abdu lives happily in his new home together with his family.  “I am now living a decent life.  I can afford to take my children to a good school and save for the future”.
